How to play Wordle
Play a free Wordle-style word game with daily and practice puzzles. Find the hidden five-letter word in six guesses.
Objective, rules, and result
Guess a valid five-letter word in at most six attempts. Green means the letter and position match, yellow means the letter occurs elsewhere, and grey means the guess adds no usable occurrence of that letter.
How to play
- Enter any valid five-letter word as your guess.
- Green letters are correct, yellow letters are misplaced, and grey letters are absent.
- Use the clues to find the hidden word within six tries.
Controls
Keyboard and mouse: Type with your keyboard and press Enter.
Touch: Use the on-screen letter keyboard.
Shortcuts: Backspace: erase.
Strategies to try
- Open with a word containing several common vowels and consonants to gather broad evidence.
- Respect duplicate-letter feedback: one grey copy can coexist with another green or yellow copy.
Device and accessibility notes
Use a physical keyboard or the on-screen letter keys. Letter feedback combines colour with tile states and keyboard updates, but players with colour-vision needs should also rely on position and the displayed key state.
Use the Settings control above the game to turn sound or vibration off and to reduce interface motion. Expand mode can provide a larger play area. Records are stored only in this browser when storage is available.
