How to play Memory Match
Play Memory Match online for free. Flip cards, remember their positions, and pair every matching card in as few moves as possible.
Guide checked against gameplay:
Objective, rules, and result
Revealing two cards counts as one move. Find every pair to finish; there is no time limit or loss state. Each match earns 100 + max(0, 30 - displayed seconds) + 25 times the current consecutive-match combo. A mismatch resets the combo and subtracts 10 points, never below zero. At completion, add 2 times max(0, 240 - displayed seconds) and 15 times max(0, twice the card count - moves).
How to play
- Choose Easy, Classic, or Hard and remember the opening card preview.
- Click or tap two cards per move. Matches stay open; mismatches close and reset the combo.
- Find every pair to finish. Use Peek once if needed, then compare your score, moves, and time.
Example: Turn a remembered pair into points
Suppose the opening preview shows rockets at row 1, column 2 and row 3, column 4. Once the cards hide, select those two positions. A first consecutive match at 10 displayed seconds earns 100 + 20 + 25 = 145 points. A second consecutive match at 12 seconds earns 168 points, for 313 before any finishing bonuses.
Common mistakes
- Two cards, not each individual flip, count as a move. Wait for a mismatch to close before selecting another pair.
- A higher score rewards combos as well as fewer moves. Remember known pairs before guessing randomly; Peek can be used only once per round.
Modes, restart, and saved progress
- Easy has 12 cards (6 pairs) and a 2.2-second opening preview; Classic has 16 cards (8 pairs) and 1.8 seconds; Hard has 24 cards (12 pairs) and 1.4 seconds. Classic is the default.
- Peek / H briefly shows hidden cards for about one second. New Game / R reshuffles at the current difficulty; changing difficulty starts over. The result Play again action returns to Classic.
- Opening How to play pauses the scene; there is no dedicated in-board pause. The displayed timer begins after the preview and can pause while input is locked with no open pair. Best scores are saved separately by difficulty; unfinished decks and card positions are not saved.
Controls
Keyboard and mouse: Click cards to reveal them.
Touch: Tap cards to reveal them.
Shortcuts: H: peek; R: restart.
Strategies to try
- Name each picture and remember both its row and column rather than relying on colour alone.
- When a known card appears, use the second turn to open its remembered partner.
Device and accessibility notes
Cards can be selected by click or tap, and the interface records moves visibly. H briefly peeks at the board and R restarts. Pictures have distinct shapes as well as colours, but this visual memory game has limited screen-reader playability.
Use the Settings control above the game to turn sound or vibration off and to reduce interface motion. Expand mode can provide a larger play area. Records are stored only in this browser when storage is available.
On a small phone, use Expand and landscape for dense grids and canvas controls. These canvas games do not expose a complete board to screen readers; Memory Match and Minesweeper also require a pointer or touch to select cells. Opening the guide or hiding the tab pauses the scene without saving the unfinished board.
