How to play Snake
Play the classic Snake game free online. Guide the snake, collect food, avoid collisions, and challenge your best score on mobile or desktop.

Objective, rules, and result
Normal pink food earns 10 points and golden food earns 35; either grows the snake by one tile. Movement speeds up after golden food or when the new score is a multiple of 40, down to a minimum 68 milliseconds per step. Hitting a wall or any occupied body tile ends the run and records its score as a finished arcade round.
How to play
- Steer with Arrow keys, WASD, or swipes; tap PAUSE or press P to pause.
- Collect pink food for 10 points or golden food for 35; both grow the snake.
- Avoid walls and every occupied body tile. After a collision, choose Play again for a new run.
Example: Plan a turn before collecting food
With your head at column 9, row 11 moving right, food at column 11, row 11 takes two forward steps to reach. Normal food raises a score of 20 to 30; gold raises it to 55. Check the next turn before collecting it, because the tail will grow and gold increases speed.
Common mistakes
- You cannot reverse directly into your body. While moving right, turn up or down first rather than pressing left.
- A rapid second direction replaces the pending turn before the next step. Leave space for one turn at a time. Even the current tail tile counts as occupied for collision checks.
Modes, restart, and saved progress
- There is one speed-progressing mode, with no difficulty selector or undo. Use PAUSE on the canvas, or P / Space, and the same control to resume.
- NEW GAME starts immediately with score zero. After a collision, Enter or the result Play again action starts another run. The best score is saved in this browser when a run ends, but the snake position is not restored after leaving or reloading.

Keyboard and mouse: Use Arrow keys or WASD to steer.
Touch: Swipe inside the game to steer; tap PAUSE to pause or resume.
Shortcuts: P / Space: pause; Enter: restart after a collision.
Strategies to try
- Leave a route around the outside of the board instead of folding the snake into a tight pocket.
- Turn one tile early near walls because a growing body leaves less room to correct direction.
Device and accessibility notes
Use Arrow keys or WASD on a keyboard, or swipe inside the board on a touch screen. P or Space pauses the run. Movement and collisions are visible; sound is optional.
Use the Settings control above the game to turn sound or vibration off and to reduce interface motion. Expand mode can provide a larger play area. Records are stored only in this browser when storage is available.
On a small phone, use Expand and landscape for dense grids and canvas controls. These canvas games do not expose a complete board to screen readers; Memory Match and Minesweeper also require a pointer or touch to select cells. Opening the guide or hiding the tab pauses the scene without saving the unfinished board.
