How to play Connect Four
Play Connect Four online for free against adjustable AI or a friend. Plan each disc drop, block threats, and connect four to win.
Objective, rules, and result
A disc falls to the lowest open space in its column. The first player to connect four discs horizontally, vertically, or diagonally wins; a full board without four is a draw.
How to play
- Choose a column to drop your coloured disc into the lowest open space.
- Build a line of four horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
- Watch for your opponent’s threats and block them before completing your own line.
Controls
Keyboard and mouse: Click a column to drop a disc.
Touch: Tap a column to drop a disc.
Shortcuts: U: undo.
Strategies to try
- Build threats in two directions so blocking one line leaves the other available.
- Control central columns because they participate in more possible groups of four.
Device and accessibility notes
Select a column by click or tap and use U when undo is available. Discs differ by colour, so players with colour-vision limitations should also use turn labels and board position.
Use the Settings control above the game to turn sound or vibration off and to reduce interface motion. Expand mode can provide a larger play area. Records are stored only in this browser when storage is available.
